Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cost of home care? Does Insurance cover it?
Our services are covered by Medicaid for eligible clients. For those who are not eligible for Medicaid or do not have Veterans benefits, Family First charges an hourly rate for all services. Schedules can range from as little as 4 hours a week to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Family First also accepts long-term care insurance and will provide families with the necessary forms to submit claims.
How does Family First match a Caregiver with a client who is resistant to help?
We provide a complimentary assessment to help clients and families get acquainted with in-home care. This assessment helps us understand the client’s personality and match them with suitable Caregivers. Our experienced Caregivers excel at building rapport with clients who may initially resist care. If a Caregiver isn’t the right fit, we strive to find a better match to ensure our clients receive the support that best meets their needs and preferences.
How are your Caregivers supervised?
Family First offers an initial assessment and continuous supervision to ensure that care plans are being implemented. Our Home Care Managers conduct regular check-in calls and home visits to address any issues and offer ongoing support and supervision. Periodic reviews of services are carried out to make necessary adjustments based on any changes in health or circumstances.
Why is working with Family First better than hiring on my own?
Engaging a caregiver on your own comes with its own set of challenges. In addition to handling caregiver payments and oversight, you will be responsible for assuming liability, paying employment taxes, conducting interviews, contacting references, and conducting criminal background checks. You will also need to negotiate pay rates and verify that candidates possess the necessary skills and training. You will also be ‘on-call’ to deal with a crisis or when a caregiver calls out sick. Family First will manage all these tasks as part of our hourly fee.
When a client is being discharged from rehab, what are things families should be thinking of?
Upon returning home from a rehab center, it is important to have a safe environment that reduces the risk of falls and ensures proper management of transportation, medications, and food in the refrigerator. Family First can assist with these tasks to ensure a successful transition home, often able to provide care on the day of discharge.
Can I hire a Caregiver to help a loved one who lives in senior housing?
Absolutely. Family First has a long history of experience working with senior housing communities and residences of all types.
